DIVINE HEALING SETTLED!

Text: Isa 53:4-5 Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes We Are Healed.

Matt 8:17 NIV This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."

1 Peter 2:24 Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness -- By Whose Stripes You Were Healed. (NKJV)

INTRO:
There are many arguments on the subject of Divine Healing. Some say that healing has been done away with. Others, That God only heals some. Still yet, Others believe that Jesus only healed during His earthly ministry to prove His deity or divinity. Some argue that God doesn’t heal at all!

However, the scriptures themselves convince us beyond dispute that healing is just as much a part of Our Redemption provided for through the sacrifice of Jesus, on the cross, as our salvation from our lost condition.

I. DID JESUS TAKE TAKE OUR SICKNESS ON THE CROSS WHEN HE TOOK OUR SIN?

A. Isa. 53:4,5 “Surely He has taken our griefs and carried our sorrows.”

1. Surely Dif. Firmly, truly, certianly, (Strongs 403, 3559) established, fixed. That way and no other way!

2. New Century Dic. Confidently, unerringly, w/o missing or slipping, assuredly, as must be believed. Inevitably, or w/o fail, securely.

3. In the Jewish Bible the Torah, the Hebrew for Is. 53:4 reads, “Surely This Man bore our sickness and carried away our pain.”

4. Borne Dif. Lift, carry away, take up or take away. (Heb.)

5. Griefs Dif. Weakness, sickness, affliction, disease and wound. (Str. 2483,2470,2490)

6. Sorrows Dif. Pain (Str. 4341)

B. Matt. 8:17 NIV “This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."

C. 1 Pet. 2:21-24 “He took our sins on himself, giving his body to be nailed on the tree, so that we, being dead to sin, might have a new life in righteousness, and by his wounds we have been made well."

D. Was it really Jesus that Isaiah was talking about in the 53rd Chapter?

1. Acts 8:32-35. "Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus."

a. Ref. Isa. 53:7

II. IS HEALING FOR ALL?

A. Question: Is salvation for all? He bore our sickness when He bore our sin!

Jn.3:16 Is for “whosoever believes on Him.”

B. If it’s God’s will to heal only some, then no one has any basis for faith unless, they have a special revelation that they are among the favored ones.

a. If Jesus bore our sickness on the cross, why would it be His will for some to keep theirs?

b. Was God confused about His will? Did He forget over the past 2000 yrs about what Jesus bore on the cross, and no longer honors His will?

C. Jn. 6:38 Jesus said, “I came down from heaven not to do my own will, but The Will Of Him who sent me.”

D. Mt. 8:2 In the case of the leper who questioned the will of God as to if He would heal, Jesus immediately straightened out his theology.

V.2 “and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, If you will, you can make me clean."

3. And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

a. When Jesus said “I will", that canceled out the lepers question, “If you will.”

(3 out of 4 Gospel writers recorded this account. Mt. 8:2, Mk. 1:40, Lk. 5:12)

E. God established His covenant of healing in the 15th Chapter of Exodus, v. 26. If you will listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and obey it, and do what is right, then I will not make you suffer the diseases I sent on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you." (TLB)

F. Ex. 23:25 God said, “I will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”

1. If God under the Old Covenant showed His healing mercies to His covenant people, will He do any less under the New Covenant established upon better promises?

2. Mt. 15:26 Jesus said, “Healing is the childrens bread.”

G. David in the Ps. 103:2,3 believed that healing was a universal a privilege as the mercy of forgiveness.

3. v.3 “Bless the Lord O my soul.. Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.”

III. Does Jesus still heal today? – Emphatically YES!

A. God said, “I am the Lord, I change not.” Mal.3:6

B. Heb. 13:8 ‘Jesus Christ yesterday, and today, and forever.”

C. If Jesus doesn’t heal today then Heb. 13:8 would be a lie!

D. Mk.16:15 Jesus Himself said, “These signs will follow them that believe: They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

1. Jesus said if you are a believer, the healing will follow your faith.

2. v.20 “ And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen

IV. Did Jesus heal to prove his Deity?

A. If Jesus only healed to prove His Deity (that He was God) and doesn’t heal today, as some say, the He never did prove it in His own home town of Nazareth!

B. Mk. 6:5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people (Minor ailments) and heal them. (NIV)

C. The scripture didn’t say He wouldn’t, it says He couldn’t! -Why? “Because of their unbelief.”

D. Divine Healing is just as much a part of our Redemption as forgiveness of sin, and the New Birth in Christ.

We should not stop at accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, but continue on and accept Him as the Healer of our body. Amen!

You are just as Healed as you are Saved! Do you doubt that you're Saved? Why doubt that you are Healed?
